On Mar. 28, 2006, the conference of World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) was held in Beijing. Bjorn Stigson, president of WBCSD, issued the Certificate of Membership of WBCSC to Capt. Wei Jiafu and welcomed COSCO to join WBCSD. Capt. Wei said in his speech: ¨°With fast economic growth and development, COSCO, as a state-owned multinational conglomerate in China, is confronted with opportunities and challenges brought by energy and climate as well as in dealing with the functions of industry and commerce in social development. Being a member of GlobalCompact and China-BCSD, COSCO is always following up the concepts of Global Compact and abiding by the ten principles in terms of human rights, labor standards, environmental protection and anti-corruption campaign. COSCO also exerts great efforts to establish a win-win situation and harmonious relationship with the states and communities and to promote the sustainable development of the world in course of operations on international logistics and ocean shipping business¨®.

With the approval of the superior authority, Capt. Wei Jiafu, President & CEO of COSCO Group attended the UN Global Compact Leadership Summit in Geneva under the invitation of H.E. Ban Ki-Moon and delivered a speech at the Plenary Session titled "Implementing Global Compact, Promoting Harmonious Enterprises and Promoting World Harmony". Capt. Wei introduced the philosophy of Chinese government officials on building a harmonious world, briefed the audience the progress and practices of implementing Global Compact and the social responsibility by Chinese business community, gave promises and proposed the advocates at the conference. He said that performing the Global Compact is an imperative to face the rising challenges from sustainable developments and corporate citizenship. After UN put forward the global compact initiative in 2000, the UN Global Compact has met with positive responses from the Chinese government and business community. More than 100 Chinese enterprises and organizations have officially joined the Compact. Capt. Wei gave a detailed introduction to Citing COSCO's example, Capt. Wei spoke on COSCO's practices of implementing Global Compact in respect of human rights, labor standards, safety, environmental protection, anti-corruption and anti-terrorism. He said, "The exercise of CSR could never hinder but only promote the corporate development. In the times of corporate citizenship, the CSR competitiveness has been a new indicator of a company's global competitiveness." Capt. Wei called for multinational companies in developed countries to shoulder up greater responsibilities in implementing CSR and principles of Global Compact, recommending the solution of "the more capabilities, the more responsibilities¨®. Capt. Wei then called international communities to join hands and make joint efforts to implement Global Compacts, build harmonious enterprise and contribute to promoting a harmonious and prosperous world with sustainable developments.

¡ö In Jul. 2007, Capt. Wei Jiafu, in a capacity of the chairman of China Ship-owners' Association, led the delegate of China Ship-owners' Association, visited Singapore to present the Asian Shipowners' Forum (ASF). At the forum, Capt. Wei recommended Mr. Wang Cheng as the First Secretary General of ASF by using the influence of China Ship-owners' Association and COSCO and his personal influence in the international maritime industry. With the efforts of Capt. Wei and China Ship-owners' Association, the forum finally agreed Mr. Wang Cheng as the First Secretary General of ASF. Wang Cheng went to Singapore in Oct. 2007 to take his office.
¡öOn Apr. 15, 2006, Zhang Fusheng, Executive Vice President of COSCO Group, attended the First Forum on Cross-Strait (Taiwan) Economy and Trade and delivered a speech of ¨°Speeding Up Cross-Strait Exchange and Cooperation, Promoting Win-Win of Cross-Strait Shipping Industries¨® that was highly recognized by the attendees.
¡ö From Jun. 15 to Jun. 17, 2006, the 3rd China Enterprise Culture Forum was held in Jinan. On behalf of COSCO, Executive vice President Li Yunpeng delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony, named "Elevating Spirit of Patriotism, Promoting Leap-forward Development of Enterprises".
