The labor unions of COSCO at all levels have established the heart-warming funds and organized the heart-warming and loving donation activities for poverty-stricken regions and employees in difficulty. This fund mainly comes from the administrative appropriations, expenses of labor unions, employees' donations and so on. In 2006, the whole group boasted of the heart-warming fund of RMB45.44 million in total. According to incomplete statistics, a total of 18,627 employees of the whole group took part in the heart-warming and loving donation activities, donating RMB3.0612 million to local employees and 18,434 articles.
In case of every New Year's Day and Spring Festival, COSCO's officials will visit front lines, ships and employees' families to give their consolation, fully expressing the organization's sincere caring for employees. During the New Year's Day and the Spring Festival of 2006, the whole group sent its consolation to 366 ships, 5,379 employees in need, 5,844 retirees, and 221 labor models. COSCO's subsidiaries also actively hold the visiting and consolation activities to help employees in need and demonstrate the human-oriented philosophy. |
In order to carry out the laws and regulations that entitle female employees rights and interests as well as special interests, COSCO's labor union and all second-tier labor unions have established the Female Employee Commissions of Labor Unions to provide special protection for female employees. Whether the terms of protecting special interests of female employees are included into the labor contracts and the collective contracts is seen as one of bases whether the contracts are regulated and effective, thus enabling the protection for the rights and interests and the special interests of female employees from the source. The labor protection for female employees has been attached great importance and strengthened; the supervision and inspection is organized to check the labor safety and health of female employees, constantly improving the working environment and conditions for female employees. |
COSCO pays much attention to establishing and improving the labor protection organizations including labor unions, strengthening the training for the labor protection inspectors of the labor union teams to effectively promote the enterprise's safe production. As of end of 2006, COSCO's labor union system had 1,634 labor protection inspectors in total who are responsible for checking the safe production of COSCO's ships at ports and the labor protection situations for employees to ensure the labor safety and safeguard the rights and interests of employees.
In 2006, COSCO's labor union employed the external safety experts to conduct the safety inspection for five subsidiaries and 3 ships. They summarized the discovered problems in reports, which were forwarded to related units and departments for rectification and implementation with the approval of COSCO's officials. |
