


On June 13, the Panama Maritime Day was held in Shanghai with the theme of 'Creating Opportunities, Serving the Globe'. The event was organized by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) and sponsored by China Shipowners' Association (CSA) and COSCO. The event attracted more than 200 delegates from both China and Panama shipping, financial and academic fields.
Chaired by Mrs. Genevieve Gerli, the Coordinator of Mega Port Project Presidency of the Republic of Panama, the Maritime Day received congratulating remarks from Mr. Dani Kuzniecky, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Minister for Canal Affairs. In his capacity of Chairman of CSA, Capt. Wei Jiafu spoke highly of the event and discussed the "Win-win Opportunities for Chinese Enterprises and Panama Canal", suggesting that both sides should develop cooperation in shipping and trade fields on the basis of mutual benefit and win-win principle. On behalf of CSA, Capt. Wei granted an award to Mr. Alberto Aleman Zubieta, Administrator of ACP for his outstanding contribution to the promotion of Canal services and trade between China and America.
Mr. William O'Neill, Chairman of ACP Advisory Board, Mr. Alberto Aleman Zubieta, Administrator of ACP, Mr. Jorge L. Quijano, Director of Maritime Operations Department of ACP, Mr. Rodolfo Sabonge, Corporate Planning and Marketing Manager of ACP, Mr. Chen Yun, Vice President of China Communications Construction Company and representative from China Development Bank also made speeches.
Mr. Zhang Shouguo, Deputy Director of Water Transportation Department of Ministry of Communications, Mr. C.C.Tung, Chairman of OOIL, Mr. Zhang Guofa, Vice President of China Shipping Group, and Mr. Shen Guanghan, Vice President of China Changjiang National Shipping (Group) Corporation, also appeared on the event.
